Ode to the Goji Berry

September 17, 2007 (DAY 23)

Goji berries arrive in the mail. Rand bought them after the recommendation of a friend who partakes and has had positive results. Goji berries are a sweet red fruit native to Asia. They're about the size of a raisen. They've been used for thousands of years and have been substantiated in modern times. They're packed full of minerals, 18 amino acids, a high amount of beta carotene and much more. The story is that it was observed that a certain tribe in Asia demonstrated a near disease free existence and longevity which exceeded 20 years of the surrounding tribes. They were studied by scientists and it was found there was a goji berry tree which hung over the tribes water supply. The berries had fallen from the tree and settled at the bottom of the water supply and fermented. By drinking the water the tribe reaped the medicinal benifits of the berry.

Research validates that regular consumption does the following:

  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Increased longevity and protects from pre-mature aging
  • Helps prevent cancer and aids remission
  • Protects the liver
  • Builds strong blood and promotes cardiovascular health
  • Supports eye health and improves vision
  • Stimulates secretion of human growth hormone
  • Strengthens muscles and bones
  • Supports normal kidney function
  • Improves fertility and treats sexual dysfunction
  • Helps reduce obesity
