Doctors and Scans

August 31 to September 5, 2007 (DAYS 5-11)

August 31, 2007 (Day 5)

Dr. Tatum ordered a CT of the lung and lung biopsy because there are suspicious area's in my lungs on the original CT. I'm scared to death of the lung biopsy and potential results. Everyone at the hospital is kind and caring which helps ease my anxiety. The biopsy is uncomfortable, but not as bad as I had expected it to be. Rand and I go home and anticipate my appointment with Dr.Tatum in a few days.

September 4, 2007 (Day 10)

My appointment with Dr. Tatum. Careful and thorough exam reveals a definite mass. A total hysterectomy is scheduled for this coming Friday! No time to freak out...stay focused and do what you have to do. He wants a PET scan to see if any cancer shows up anywhere else and to check the nodules in my lungs. We're told they appear to be histoplasmosis, but don't know for sure. The lung biopsy came back negative for cancer. The clinical staff is very attentive and gentle. That makes a huge difference when you're frightened. Kudo's to the staff at St. Marys Hospital!

September 5, 2007 (Day 11)

PET scan done and call from Dr. Tatum that the nodules in my lungs didn't "glow". Awesome! We need to "keep an eye on them, but they don't appear to be of concern at this time." Be at the hospital at 5:30 AM on Friday for surgery.
