The Summer of 1980

A few of the Lamar Girls

How fortunate I am
to have grown with you
dancing through our years of youth
beneath the skies of blue

Ever constant was our love
The bond we shared, unshaken
mud pies drying in the sun
it was supper we were makin'

We ran upon the sweet wet grass
we chased the butterflies
and blew away the dandelions
to watch the seedlings fly

We fought, we played
We chased and pushed
we giggled and we twirled
we danced like Cinderella
in our sister world

Now miles away
and years gone by
My heart begins to stir
I wipe a tear, and grin a smile
with every thought of her

And in my mind we're still at play
beneath the summer sun
Or dancing circles in the snow
sisters having fun~

The Sisters minus one and cousin Rondal

This page is dedicated to my sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles. Although the poem is about sisters, as I was writing it, it stirred memories of growing up with my cousins, aunts and uncles. Many a summer was spent together. Camping, bike riding, swimming, exploring, fussing and loving. What a delight! Family to share with and where memories are born.
